The no lucrativa permit
A status for those living on savings or passive income who do not intend to work in Spain. Filed at a consulate, it requires proven funds and living in the country for more than half the year.
Who it suits
- You live on savings, rent, dividends or a pension.
- You do not plan to work in Spain, neither employed nor self-employed.
- You are ready to spend more than half the year in the country.
- You see Spain as a place to live, not a base for travelling.
What you will have to prove
- Funds for a year ahead: the benchmark is 400% IPREM for the applicant and 100% per family member.
- The source of funds must be lawful and evidenced by statements, not a one-off transfer.
- Health insurance from a Spanish provider with no excess, for the full term of the permit.
- A criminal record certificate, apostilled and sworn-translated.
- A medical certificate under the International Health Regulations.
- No entry ban for Spain or the Schengen area.
How the work goes
Case review 45 minutes
We calculate the amount required for your family and check what you will prove it with.
Documents from 3 weeks
We assemble the dossier: finances, insurance, certificates, legalisation and sworn translations.
Appointment and filing consulate slot
We book the consulate, assemble the set and support the appointment.
Review up to 3 months
We follow the decision and answer the consulate’s requests.
Arrival and TIE card 30–40 days
After arrival we handle the registration, fingerprints and the card.
Length, renewal and the path to permanent residence
- First permit
- One year.
- Renewal
- Then two years and two more, provided the funds hold and you actually live in Spain.
- Permanent residence and work
- Five years open the way to permanent residence. After one year the status can be changed to a work permit — employed or self-employed.
How it differs from the other programmes
The key limit is that you may not work at all, including remotely for a foreign employer. If your income comes from work rather than savings, you need Digital Nomad: the same move, but keeping your job.
